The EPS Lights are part of the EPS collection of Klaas Kuiken. In order to create the unique shapes of this lamp, a specific method of iron casting has been applied, namely 'lost-foam casting'. This is mainly used in the production of engine parts and is therefore almost never visible. For this process, Klaas first made designs from styrofoam. After the perfect forms are surrounded by sand, hot iron is poured into it. This ensures that the polystyrene foam melts, and the iron can perfectly take over the unique shapes of the polystyrene foam. Inspired by the possibilities of the new way of working, Klaas immediately made a beautiful design, which led to the EPS collection. In addition to the lamps, stoves, chairs and tables also stole the spotlights through this innovative method.
The dynamic interaction between the heavy, dark, rough iron blocks and the light, colourful, flat light bars brings the whole to life. The lamps can be admired during the Milan design week 2018.
