Colour and Light in Product design and their influence to our states of mind, spaces and environments
Light and Colour go hand by hand-we perceive the spectrum because of the presence of light. Colours offer unlimited possibilities for tones and shadings. This is what makes them so unique and stimulating. A colour is a memory, a symbol, a feeling...an experience. The main objective of this project was to translate the experiment of light, colours and geometric shapes into a lighting design product. Visible Light is a light object that plays with colour and light to create a positive effect on the interior environment of the user. The colour-overlayed disks offer multiple possibilities of colour compositions when rotated and aim to encourage interaction and playfulness.
The piece of lighting is composed of colour dyed acrylic disks that serve as light filters during the day and are being illuminated by white diffused light during the night. The selection of colours is based on the three primary colours-red, yellow and blue, each used with a different percentage of opacity in order to create a different shading. The product focuses on analogue rather than digital-instead of using different coloured light and control the colour variations digitally, the colour variations are controlled manually by the rotation of the circles. This creates a more intimate approach and engages the user to actively participate and arrange unique colour compositions.
The object is designed to work with as well as without artificial light-as the colour-play remains a leading feature and reflections between the coloured filters can be observed also in daylight. The object plays with light and colour, creating a layered image and aims for a positive effect on the environment of the user.
