In May a new food hall was opened in the heart of Amsterdam called 'The Food Department'. In The Food Department, you can find various food stands from several cuisines. In addition, there are three large bars; a cocktail bar, beer and wine bar and the main bar. The range is a mix of big names such as the Butcher, sushito and van 't spit. The food hall can be found on the second floor of the Magna Plaza shopping centre.

The three bars are designed by Untitled Projects. Untitled projects develops and produces for international brands, architects and designers and specializes in unique projects and interiors. Untitled projects has chosen the Smile Plastics collection for the top layer of the three bars in three different types: Kaleido, charcoal and black dapple. Each sheet is unique and has its own story and characteristics. Take a good look at the Kaleido sheet. Perhaps you can discover a barcode! These barcodes come from the PET bottles that are incorporated in them, each sheet is different.

The black-red bar (the beer- and wine bar) is made with the type 'CHARCOAL'. The Charcoal sheet is made from 16 to 58kg PET packaging material and is deep black with white flakes. Charcoal has the same characteristics as Kaleido, it is made from the same material. Kaleido en Charcoal are suitable as table- and worktops, bar- and counter fronts, furniture, splashbacks, and other applications.

The yellow-multicolour bar (the cocktail bar) is made with the type 'KALEIDO'. The Kaleido sheet is made from 650 to 2500 plastic PET bottles. Each sheet is different and there are also differences within a sheet. A further investigation of the surface of the material yields clues about his recycling journey, whereby a number of barcodes and labels become visible. Kaleido is hard and stiff, fully moisture- and weather resistant and UV stable.

De green-black/white bar (the main bar) is made with the type 'BLACK DAPPLE'. The Dapple sheets are made from cutting boards and packaging material. One sheet contains around 100 to 150 cutting boards. Since
this sheet is made from HDPE, the material is not suitable for the laser and cannot be bond. This material is also difficult deformable. The Dapple sheets are ideal for table- and worktops, bar- and counter fronts and furniture.
